RAIA: Ambelim proved to be better shooters edging out Verna Sports Club 8-9 (1-1) via a marathon penalty shoot-out to move into the semi-finals of 24th Our Lady of Merces football at Chinchinim Church ground, Monday. They led 1-0 at the interval. Ambelim will now take on DBO Fatorda.
During one of Ozen’s attempts, the ball eluded Royal and Ambelim’s Samson Fernandes cushioned his header into the net putting Ambelim ahead in the 28th minute. After the exchange of ends, Verna threw everything into the attack and Clifton Rebello levelled from the spot taking the match into the shoot-out.
Velroy Fernandes (twice), Prinson Fernandes (twice), Leister Fernandes, Asfin Pinto and Ozen Silva (twice) converted for Ambelim. Only Savio Pereira, Clifton Rebello, Fulgancio Cardozo, Noel Silva, Royal Moniz and Savio Pereira found the net for Verna.
