PANJIM: Joel Conceicao Barretto’s second-half strike proved good enough to help Ameya Vidyaprasarak Mandal Higher Secondary School, Ponda bounce back from a goal down to pip Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School, Pilar by the odd goal in three (2-1) in the RFYS football tournament, in Verna, on Wednesday.
Fr Agnel’s incidentally, went into the breather with a slender 1-0 lead after Edward Pereira found the net in the 36th minute. It took Ameya Vidyaprasarak 35 minutes to restore parity, when Mangeshsa Sharma struck in the 71st minute, before Joel sealed Fr. Agnel’s fate.
In another match, Anthony Fernandes and Alger Da Costa stole the limelight for Don Bosco High School, Panjim as they trounced St. Xavier’s High School, Moira 7-0.
Six of the goals came in the first half itself at the Ganeshpuri Sports Complex, Mapusa.
