Amogh, Deepraj shine for Salgaocar CC

PANJIM: Salgaocar Cricket Club got off to a good start against Chowgule SC while Alcon MCC were all out for 179 runs against Manas Panjim Gymkhana on the first day of the third round of GCA’s Goa Premier League 2022-23, on Wednesday.

With the semi-final spots at stake for three out of four teams, as Dempo CC have already qualified, the third and final round of the group matches are set for a close finish.

At GCA Academy ground at Porvorim, the day saw a total of 18 wickets falling. Manas Panjim Gymkhana themselves were struggling at 142/8 at stumps against Alcon MCC. Rajshekhar Harikant with 34 runs, was the highest run-getter for Manas Panjim Gymkhana, while Rahul Mehta contributed 23. Heramb Parab is unbeaten on 22. Alcon MCC captain Darshan Misal and Keith Pinto took three wickets each.

Earlier, Shantanu Nevagi sparkled for Alcon MCC with a 80-run knock. He struck 12 boundaries in his 107-ball knock. Manas Panjim Gymkhana’s Rahul Mehta grabbed 4 wickets while Manish Kakode took 3.

In the other match, Salgaocar CC rode on twin centuries, as experienced Amogh Desai scored a patient 107 off 196 balls, while captain Deepraj Gaonkar hammered a strokeful 102 off 93 balls to post 286/4 against Chowgule SC at GCA ground, Sanguem.
