SINQUETIM: Verna Veterans rode on a fine hat-trick from Francis Andrade to get past a staunch Chinchinim Veterans and enter the final of the Above 40 GVFC football tournament, at the Sinquetim ground, on Sunday.
If Andrade was the hero of the match with his hat-trick, it was goalkeeper Camilo Barreto who did a commendable job in keeping Verna in the match with at least two great saves.
Andrade opened the scoring much against the run of play with a finish in the seventh minute.
Andrade made it 2-0 in the fourth minute of the second half.
But Chinchinim came roaring back with Johnson Abranches converting a free kick in the eleventh minute from well outside the area.
Nicolau Borges drew level for Chinchinim from the spot in the very next minute to bring the game back into excitement mode.
However, Andrade ensured no one would steal his thunder when he cashed in on a defensive error to slot home his third of the match and usher Verna Veterans into next week’s final.
