AIFF’s Assistant General Secretary, Anil Kamat will lead the 5-member high powered delegation to oversee the football stadium facilities and infrastructure in Goa which will arrive here on Thursday.
Anil, who hails from Chinchinim and is serving the AIFF for more than a decade, being in-charge of the competitions, disclosed that the 2-member IMG Reliance and 2-member Populous teams will inspect the Duler Stadium, Mapusa, Nehru Stadium at Fatorda-Margao and Tilak stadium in Vasco to inspect the infrastructure and facilities with the sole objective of raising it to higher levels. Populous has been involving in designing stadiums in Wembley, Qatar and they will share their expertise in modernising the Goa stadiums, stated Kamat.
“The Goa stadiums need to be revamped and even remodelled so as to come up to international standards. That has also been the AFC findings and now there is every opportunity to do the needful in that direction,” remarked Anil, who at one time had applied for a key post in GFA at the instance of the then GFA chief to head the Asian Vision programme, the interviews for which were never held by the previous committee.
Anil’s knowledge and his deep involvement and commitment in organisational matters in AIFF have earned him plaudits from the football fraternity, more so as he is readily accessible and available, there being not even traces of arrogancy and rancour in his mannerism.
