Anjuna Gym down Xetrapal SC

MAPUSA: Two brilliant saves in the penalty shoot-out by keeper Soma Korgaokar enabled Anjuna Gymkhana to register a 4-2 win via the tie-breaker over Xetrapal Sports Club in the inaugural match of Anthony & Santana Carvalho Memorial Cup organised by St. Savio’s SC, Calangute, at Calangute ground, on Wednesday.

MAPUSA: Two brilliant saves in the penalty shoot-out by keeper Soma Korgaokar enabled Anjuna Gymkhana to register a 4-2 win via the tie-breaker over Xetrapal Sports Club in the inaugural match of  Anthony & Santana Carvalho Memorial Cup organised by St. Savio’s SC, Calangute, at Calangute ground, on Wednesday.
In a thrilling encounter, the match was fought at a fast pace where Xetrapal’s Pushparaj Mandrekar’s two goal bound strikes were pushed to safety by Anjuna keeper Soma Korgaokar with full stretched diving saves. 
Anjuna too had their chances once in each half, but this time the Xetrapal keeper Ashitosh Gadekar came to his teams’ rescue to deny Rohit Gadekar and Aniket Dabolkar from scoring.
With the match ending in a goalless draw, the penalty shoot-out was implemented where Rohan, Dinesh, Nitesh and Akshay shot on target for the Anjuna side while only Vipul and Saish scored for Xetrapal.
