MAPUSA: Anjuna Gymkhana Sports Club registered a hard fought 5-4 win via tie-breaker over St Anthony’s SC Marna to clinch the Nerul Golden Jubilee Cup 2019, organised by Nerul Sports Club at Nerul ground, recently.
St Anthony’s Marna scored an early 5th minute goal through Mayuresh Naik, who after collecting a pass from Kashiram Pomburpekar placed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 1-0.
On crossing over, play was mostly restricted to the midfield. Finally in the 58th minute of play Referee Deepraj awarded a penalty to Anjuna Gymkhana where a defender handled the ball inside the penalty box. Jesman Carvalho stepped forward and scored 1-1.
To decide the winners, the penalty shootout was implemented. For Anjuna Gymkhana colts scored through Jesman Carvalho, Navin Shirodkar, Vinayak Mulgaonkar and Faheez Mohammad while for St Anthony’s SC Marna colts Mayuresh Naik, Sharwin Lobo and Pushparaj Mandrekar scored.
The prizes were handed over by Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar, special invitee ZP panchayat member Rupesh Naik and Nerul Sports Club executive members.
Rupesh Shirodkar, vice president of Nerul SC proposed the vote of thanks.
