CALANGUTE: Anna Vaddo beat Saipem 4-3 via the sudden-death to clinch the top-spot in United Boys of Camottim Cup inter-ward football tournament organized by United Boys of Camottim at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Sunday. There was no score at full time.
Saipem began with a bang and could have taken the lead in the very second minute but Rohan missed by a whisker. Anna Vaddo too came very close to scoring but Saipem goalkeeper Claro pulled off a superb save blocking a free-kick from Elvis from just outside the danger zone.
With the teams failing to score at full time, the winners were decided on penalties.
Anna Vaddo kept their nerves to beat Saipem 4-3. Bhavesh, Sarvesh, Adrin and Greg found the net for the winners while Paul, Rohan and Gokuldas scored for Saipem.
Anna Vaddo were richer by Rs 10,000 while Saipem had to be content with Rs 8,000.
Other prizes — Best forward: Adrin (Anna Vaddo). Best midfielder: Bhavesh (Anna Vaddo). Best goalkeeper: Claro (Saipem). Upcoming player: Prakash (Camottim). Player of the tournament: Paul (Saipem).
Sarpanch of Candolim Sandra Fialho was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Hilary Lopes, Anthony Lopes, Cruz Fernandes and other officials.
Earlier, Duarte Fernandes, president of United Boys of Camottim welcomed. Jocelyn Misquita proposed the vote of thanks. Bruno D’Souza compered.
