MARGAO: Anshuman Agarwal, Ruchi Kirtani, Galya Fernandes and Aaron Farias won double crowns at the All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament organised by BPS Club Margao under the aegis of Goa Table Tennis Association.
Twelve-year-old Ruchi was in prime form as she cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Pradnya Caro to win the Girls U-13 title and thereafter created history by becoming one of the youngest players to win the Ladies singles title in an exciting 3-2 win over Anushri Naik.
Aaron Farias emerged winner in Boys U-15 and U-17 categories. In the U-15 section, Aaron was made to sweat by Akshan Lawande before prevailing to a 3-2 win while the U-17 category was a much easier contest for the left handed Aaron, who raced to a comfortable 3-0 win over former India Silver medallist Shantesh Mapshekar.
Young table tennis prodigy Anshuman Agarwal expectedly won the Junior Boys Under-19 men’s singles titles in an emphatic style. In Boys U-19 finals, the top seed came all guns blazing to register a facile 3-0 win over Akshan Lawande. The Men’s singles final was a much more engaging contest where the veteran warhorse Noel Noronha wrested one set, but Anshuman was virtually unstoppable, winning the contest with a 4-1 score line to emerge Men’s singles champion.
