RAIA: Curtorim Gymkhana outplayed Navelim Sporting Club 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of 15th Davorlim Cup organised by Sporting Club of Davorlim, at Davorlim panchayat ground, on Saturday.
Match started on a slow pace and both teams tried to take control of the game but Navelim SC had the first opportunity to take lead as Prestly Gomes’ left footer punched away for corner by Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper Johnson in the 16th minute of the game, while Curtorim Gymkhana Mario Mascarenhas’ 30-yard shot kissed the hands of Jit Gupta and hit the crossbar to land into the net to give lead before half time.a Curtorim Gymkhana led 1-0 at the half time.
Changing over, Navelim SC attacked Curtorim Gymkhana citadel. Meliston gave through pass to Sandroy Costa, who well collected and placed the ball into the far corner of the net to get the much-needed equaliser beating Curtorim Gymkhana keeper.
But in the next minute due to Navelim SC goalkeeper error Anslem Fernandes scored in the 40th minute and later completed his brace by scoring the second goal in the injury time.
Anslem Fernandes was declared man-of-the-match, which was presented by Marcel Miranda, vice-president of Davorlim Sporting Club.
