MAPUSA: Goa’s Anura Prabhu Desai along with her partner Riya Mookherjee have entered the Women’s Doubles Main Draw, at the Yonex Sunrise Senior All India Badminton Ranking Tournament, underway at Peddem Sports complex, Mapusa.
In their final round Qualifying match, Anura / Riya registered a comfortable 15-5, 15-7 win over Surya Genareson / S. A. Ramya to seal their place in the Main Draw. Goa’s Lydia Barreto and Siya Dhavaskar have marched into the final Qualifying round in women’s singles with wins over Rashi Tyagi and Sazia Khan respectively. In men’s singles section, Karan Dhavaskar (Goa) has moved into the Qualifying 4th round. In his 3rd round match, Karan defeated Ritwik Deb. Meanwhile, Floyd Araujo, Tejan Fallary and Ajinkya Savant who had performed well to reach round 3 lost their respective matches to bow out. In Men’s doubles, HiGoa’s doubles pairs in contention,Pankaj Naik / Sushil Nayak and Navaneet Nasnodkar (Goa) / Sunny Sawant (Goa) crashed out in round two Qualifying.
In other results, Tejan Fallary (Goa) / Anushka Kuvelkar (Goa) lost to Sanjai Srivatsa D. / Thanushree R. in Mixed Doubles while Mallika Dang / Bharti Pal defeated Anjana Kumari (Goa) / Rudrani Jaiswal.
