PANJIM: After 12th round of play, Dempo goodwill ambassador IM Anurag Mhamal secured 8 points after outsmarting FM Prasenjit Datta (2208) of Delhi at 52nd National Challenger (National ‘B’) Chess Championship at Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday.
State champion Rohan Ahuja remained on 7.5 points after losing to GM R.R. Laxman (2450) of Railways while Goa Carbon goodwill ambassador WGM Bhakti Kulkarni (7 points) drew with Harikrishna S.R. (2039) of Kerala.
Geno Pharmaceuticals goodwill ambassador CM Nitish Belurkar (6.5 points) outplayed Tayyeb Asif Mohmamad (1683), Rajaryan Kuvelkar (6 points) drew with Gajendra Singh (2068) of LIC while Barath M (5.5 points) defeated Avinash Chandra (1619) of Uttaranchal.
The final round will be played on Monday.
