Arambol storm past Valpoi FC

Register a overwhelming 6-1 victory; Shashank nets a brace while Sandesh, Hemant, Vivek and Amit add name to scoresheet

MAPUSA: Holy Cross Sports Club, Arambol had an easy outing as they scored a huge 6-1 win over Valpoi Sports Club in the GFA’s Second Division League football match, at Duler Stadium, here, on Wednesday.
At the breather, Arambol led 3-0.
It was the Arambol outfit who held major possession of the match keeping the Valpoi squad pinned in their own half.
Arambol showed they meant business right from the word go when they shot into the lead in the very first minute of the match through Shashank Ashvenkar, who on getting hold of the ball from
Sandesh Sawant, made his way past the defenders and slotted home the ball past the diving Valpoi keeper Avez Khan.
The duo created havoc in the Valpoi danger zone as a few minutes later, Arambol doubled their lead where this time Sandesh Sawant set up Shashank Ashwekar who fired in a low grounder.
After several missed chances the duo once again got into the scoring act when Shashank sent a
lovely through ball to Sandesh, who after covering some ground unleashed a powerful strike which had no answer from the keeper.
On resumption of play, Valpoi tried to crawl back into the match but Arambol proved a hard nut to crack. In the 59th minute, Hemant Rodrigues further inflated the lead for Arambol through a curling right footer strike.
Few minutes later, Vivek Naik took the score to 5-0 through a solo effort only to see Amit Fernandes further increase the score to 6-0.
A minute before the final whistle, Valpoi woke up from their slumber and managed to score a consolation goal through Vishal Narvekar.
