PANJIM: St. Jose de Areal Sports Club defeated Varca Sports Club by 3-1 goals to march into the quarter finals of the All Goa 37th St Joseph Festival Soccer Inter Village Tournament organised by Dramapur Sports Club at their gounds.
St. Jose de Areal lead by 2 -0 goals at lemon break. The highlight of the day was a brilliant brace by Mariano Rebello. After dominating the opening sessions with good team work St. Jose de Areal Club took the lead through Dezzi Oliveira in the 5th minute who scored with a deft placement shot. St. Jose de Areal doubled the lead in the 26th minute when Mariano Rebello caught the rival goalkeeper on the wrong foot and found the nets much to cheer his club.
After lemon break, St. Jose de Areal enjoyed the lion share of exchange and Mariano Rebello struck for the second time to complete his brace soon after resumption.
Varca Sports Club despite being down managed to salvage some pride through a consolation goal was scored by Solomon Noronha.
