MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club rallied to beat Varca Sports Club 2-1 and sail into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Wilred Leisure Super Soccer inter-village tournament organized by Wilred Lesiure Sports Club at DYSA ground, Curtorim, Thursday. Areal trailed 0-1 at the breather.
Varca enjoyed a slight edge over their opponents in the opening session and called the shots against the rival citadel. Their efforts materialized in the 11th minute when Tennyson Rocha bulged the net.
Stung by the early reverse, Areal conducted umpteen well orchestrated raids but their forwards fumbled at crucial moments.
Crossing over, Areal put up a better display and troubled the rival defence with raids. Their persistent efforts materialized when Silveter Cardozo slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Spurred by the equalizer, Areal raised the tempo and attacked the rival goal regularly. Lefito Gomes sealed the rival fate in the 60th minute when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
