CHINCHINIM: Sao Jose de Areal got the better of CAC Cansaulim 4-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the 20th Our Lady of Merces eight-a-side inter-village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club at Church ground, Chinchinim, on Wednesday.
Areal’s Bersel Viegas shot from the centre was blocked by Denzil Soares defender of Cansaulim. Domnic of Cansaulim long range shot was saved by Joseph Monteiro, keeper of Areal.
The first goal of the match was scored by Bersel in the 6th minute for Areal.
Mintues later, Raymond Fernandes of Areal failed to connect David Barretto’s cross inside Cansaulim box.
Jowett had the best chance to score but the striker shot wide with only the keeper at his mercy.
Bersel netted his brace in the 17th minute. Within two minutes, Fredrick Endro made it 3-0 for Areal.
Cansaulim came from behind and netted three quick goals which came from the boots of Domnic in the 35th minute, Jowet Baretto in the 38th minute and Cansio Soares in the 47th minute.
The winning goal was scored by Raymond Fernandes for Areal in the 52nd minute.
