Arpora draw with PY Vagator

Shankar Pailankar equalised two minutes before the end to ensure Arpora Sporting Club rescued a point as they drew 2-2 with Parish Youth, Vagator in GFA’s Third Division at Chapora ground, on Monday. Vagator were leading 1-0 at the breather.
Arpora started the brightest. Throughout the match they created many chances, but unfortunately most of their efforts were well wide of the goal. Striker Manuel Lopes was the main threat, especially when he dropped deep to help out his midfield.
Vagator kept hold of the ball well in the midfield. The team picked up the pace in the second half after Tyson Fernandes came off the bench and caused the opponents a lot of problems with his crosses from the right.
In the 12th minute, the Arpora goalkeeper scrambled out of his box to clear the ball, unfortunately for him, the ball was closed down and eventually fell to Vagator’s Caitan Fernandes who neatly placed into the corner of the net.
After the change of ends, Arpora showed urgency to get back in the match. Vagator were lucky as they cleared off the goalline twice to deny Arpora.
Shortly after, Vagator goalkeeperVincent Fernandes hit Arpora’s Manuel Lopes on the back after a poor clearance.
In the 54th minute, Manuel Lopes finally scored after bundling in a cross driven in from the right side to bring Arpora on level terms.
In the 81st, a Vagator corner was swung in from the left side to the near post. Tyson Fernandes was lurking in the box and the ball hit him on the back of the leg, before rolling into the goal.
Two minutes before close, Arpora had a corner at the other end. Shankar Palinkar stretched out a leg and kung-fu kicked the ball into to the top corner to salvage a valuable point.
In another match at Anjuna ground, St Sebastian SC, Mapusa registered a 5-2 victory over Sai Avtar SC. Swapnil Kondalkar opened the scoring for Sai Avtar after only five minutes.
Steven Fernandes equalised in the 13th. Six minutes before the lemon beak Mohmedin Khan put Mapusa ahead. Steven added his second in the 63rd and four minutes later Anthony Veigas put Mapusa 4-1 ahead.
Joalen Fenandes was on the scoresheet for Mapusa in the 74th. Four minutes before the end Abhijeet Salgaonkar pulled one back for Sai Avtar but it proved too little too late.
