Arpora Sporting defeated Sangolda Lightning 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of Fr. Chico Bayside Cup football tournament organised by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim on Thursday. They led 1-0 at half time.
In an equally contested match by the Bardez giants, Arpora Sporting dominated the first half and took an early lead in the 3rd minute through Pramod Mardolkar who tapped the ball in off a beautifully executed corner by Premanand Gadekar.  
Sangolda Lightning made tireless efforts to restore parity but their forwards failed to score. Agnelo played his heart out to secure the equaliser for his team but he failed to find the net. 
On changing ends, Sangolda Lightning tried to take control of the game and score the equaliser with Agnelo, time and again, involved in scoring opportunities but without success. 
Sangolda Lightning finally managed to score the equaliser in the dying minutes off a corner taken by Christopher Miranda which was headed in by Govind Palyekar to take the match into the tie-breaker. 
The full time score was 1-1.
In the tie-breaker; it was Arpora Sporting who kept their cool and slotted home to take the game away from Sangolda Lightning 4-3.  Premanand Gadekar, Joaquim Fernandes, Mandar Parab and Suddesh Naik converted for Arpora Sporting while Christopher Miranda, Servanand and Agnel Quadros scored for Sangolda Lightning.
