Arpora stun Sangolda

Holiday Club Arpora stunned Sangolda Lightning 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of 5th Saligao United Cup All-Goa inter-village football tournament

CALANGUTE: Holiday Club Arpora stunned Sangolda Lightning 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of 5th Saligao United Cup All-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Saligao United at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Monday. The score was 1-1 at full time. 
After a goalless first half, Sangolda went ahead in the 40th minute through Govind Balekar who beat Arpora goalkeeper Fidelis off a corner by Tome Alvares. Stung by the reverse, Arpora went all-out in search of the equalizer and almost drew level but Sangolda goalkeeper Washington affected a brilliant save off a Savio Pereira try. 
Tome Alvares could have doubled the lead for Sangolda but Arpora goalkeeper Fidelis stretched himself to the limit to save the curling free kick. 
With time running out, Raghuvir Salgaonkar scored the equalizer for Arpora upon receiving a long pass from Sanjay Kudalkar from the deep beating the onrushing Sangolda goalkeeper. 
In the tie-breaker, Arpora held their nerves to romp home victorious by a 4-3 margin. Savio Pereira, Gaurish Naik, Saish Palyekar and Kalpesh Naik converted for Arpora while Washington Pereira, Yogesh and Tome Alvares found the mark for Sangolda.
