PANJIM: Ashutosh Chari emerged winner in Men’s singles while Noel Noronha and Suresh Karapurkar reigned supreme in the doubles section, at the 4th Late Purushottam V P Navelcar Memorial Talent Search table tennis tournament, organised by Panaji Ganeshotsav Samiti in collaboration with Panjim Table Tennis Club, at Dr SPM Stadium, Taleigao.
Aaron Colaco emerged winner in U-21 Boys singles category.
Ashutosh Chari edged out Eknath Mahadeshwar in a five set thriller, winning 3-2 to lift the men’s singles title. In the doubles section, top seeds Noel Noronha and Suresh Karapurkar continued their winning streak to make it four in a row for the pair, defeating number two seeded pair of Nikhil Jadhav / Sanisha Shetye with a comfortable 3-0 score line. In the U-21 boys singles, Aaron Colaco was the deserving winner, putting up a brilliant show of aggression and control to oust Nikhil Jadhav 3-0.
The third place (losing semi-finalists) prizes were awarded to Priyam Redkar and Advait Mudras (U21 Boys); Nikhil Bandekar and Nikhil Jadhav (Men’s singles); and Selvyn Godinho / Shubham Lokre and Ratnadeep Shivani / Nikhil Bandekar (Doubles).
Promising player prizes were awarded to Sunil Agrahar, Yusuf Shaikh, Pawan Vishwakarma and Rida Shaikh.
Krupa Navelcar, Navelcar Enterprises, organising Secretary Sahil Kamat, Chief Referee Gaurang Bhangui and Sandeep Heble, event coordinator, graced the closing function.
