CHICALIM: Bethany Convent School, St Jose de Areal beat Marina English High School, Verna 4-2 via the tie-breaker to win the 22nd All Goa Bro D. O. Slattery Memorial U-13 inter-school football tournament organised by Regina Mundi School, Chicalim in association with Alumni Association of Regina Mundi School, at RMS ground, Chicalim, on Friday.
Marina English started on an attacking note with Rosewelt and Salvador making inroads into the Bethany camp but some good goalkeeping efforts by Austin prevented them from scoring. The teams were balanced and were confined to some good midfield play in the second half.
Durgesh Soni, Sanvesh Palkar, Stanford Rebello, and Sam Maura scored for Bethany while Rosewelt Pereira and Stanford scored for Marina English.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Marina English High School, Verna blanked Our Lady of Perpetual Sucoour High School, Cortalim 3-0 while Bethany Convent School, St Jose de Areal beat Deepvihar High School, Sada 2-0 and in the third place match OL of Perpetual Sucoour HS, Cortalim won.
Earlier former Goa and International football star Lector Mascarenhas, Assistant Director (IRS), of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Goa Regional Unit, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India kicked off the tournament at a glittering opening ceremony.
Dr Sujay Das, President of the Alumni Association of Regina Mundi School (AARMS) gave away the trophies, cash awards and medals to the prize winners in the presence of Bro Vinay Khadia, Headmaster of RMS, Manoj Halarnkar, Secondary School Co-ordinator, Brian Frias, Secretary of AARMS, Glyn Carvalho, Cristo Sanches, Kelly Fernandes and other dignitaries.
