MAPUSA: Assagao Union HS, Assagao had to wait for the penalty shootout before they got the better of their rivals St Ann’s HS, Thivim 4-3 in the inaugural match of the Bardez Taluka Junior Nehru hockey tournament for U-17 girls, organised by DYSA played at Peddem Sports Complex, on Thursday.
No goals were scored in the regulation time. In the tie-breaker, for Assagao school S Siddhi (2), Demovva B and Kavita J were on target, while Esha F, Jovita J and Divyashree S converted for Thivim school.
In the second match of the day St Xavier’s HSS, Mapusa drubbed Holy Cross HS, Siolim 10-0. Kerryann Albuquerque netted five and Rani Topno netted 3 goals. Nitiz Kullu scored the other two goals for the winners.
In the last match of the day defending champions St Anthony HS, Monte Guirim went down fighting to St Anthony HS, Duler 2-0.
Veena Naik and Riya Salgaonkar scored for the Duler School.
