SAO JOSE DE AREAL: Assolda Veterans defeated VIVA, Bardez North Veterans 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the 2nd Assolda Veterans football tournament played at Padribhat ground, Sao jose de Areal, on Saturday.
Assolda Veterans were the dominant side in the first half with the strikers going all in to find the first goal.
Assolda’s striker, Rosario Carvalho took control of the ball and hit a volley to open the account in the 3rd minute off Peter Piexito’s assist.
Rosario within four minutes doubled the lead with a perfect placement shot after Krishna Shirodkar sent in a well measured pass to the striker.
Two goals down Viva Veterans tried hard to defend their citadel but Assolda Veterans were too strong for the rivals and managed to score two more goals through Rosario in the 15th and 20th minutes respectively.
Four goals down Viva Veterans tried hard to get back into the game but their strikers fumbled at the goal.
Viva Veterans got their first real chance through striker Anthony Pontes who failed to convert off a through pass from Henry Fernandes in the 29th minute.
Rosario Carvalho with his left footer made it 5-0 for Assolda in the 47th minute while Peter Piexito made it 6-0 for Assolda in the 50th minute.
Viva Veterans down by 6-0 managed to score three quick goals through Trevor Antao in the 56th and 58th minute while Joseph Fernandes added his name on the score sheet to make it 3-6 in the 60th minute.
Viva Veterans tried hard to equalise however Assolda Veterans defended well to keep the rival strikes at bay.
