MAPUSA: Assonora United got the better of Candolim SC 8-7 via sudden death to advance ahead in the next round of the Lakhanpal Soccer Cup, organized by Candolim SC, at Candolim ground, on Tuesday.
Assonora’s Projot Arabekar put his team ahead in the seventh minute as he tapped the ball into the goal off a cross from Milind Shinde. Ten minutes later, they increased the lead as Milind finished with a rasping right-footer.
Down by two goals, Candolim regrouped and managed to level terms before the breather through Sanket Jotkar and Stanley D’Silva.
On resumption of play, Assonora United forged ahead in the 40th minute as Rajesh Salgaonkar got hold to cross from Milind and slotted it past Candolim keeper.
When it looked the Assonora side were heading for a win, Candolim leveled terms through Sanket, who scored from a goalmouth melee.
The tie-breaker also ended in a 4-4 draw but Assonora United had the lasty laugh in the sudden-death, winning 5-4.
