Assonora United set up semis clash with Friends XI Vaddem

MAPUSA: Assonora United made it into the semi-finals of the 7th Reis Magos Inter Village Cup through a hard fought 2-1 win over Goa Velha SC in the quarter-final played at Verem ground, on Monday.

At halftime, Assonora United led by a 2-0 margin.
The winners took the lead in the 8th minute of play when Prajot Arabekar tapped home the ball from a goalmouth melee.
In the 26th minute of play, Punaji Kalangutkar doubled the lead for Assonora United when he coolly slotted in the ball from inside the 18-yard box.
Crossing over, Yogendra Thapa managed to reduce the margin for Goa Velha SC through a curling 25-yard freekick.
Yogendra almost levelled terms for Goa Velha SC in the 44th minute, but his strike hit the side post.
