MARGAO: Assumpta Convent High School, Sarzora overcame Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda 1-0 to storm into the semi-finals of Salcete Taluka under-14 boy’s inter-school football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, at Manora ground, Raia.
In an evenly fought battle, the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and the all-important goal came through the boots of Nigel Fernandes.
Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna defeated Mount Mary High School, Chinchinim 2-1.
John Fernandes and Ashley Borges were the goal getters for the winners while Akshay Konkre scored the consolation goal for Mount Mary.
Meanwhile, Rosary HS, Navelim; Loyola HS, Margao and St Anthony HS, Majorda booked their places in the last eight stage of the tournament.
Rosary HS scored a comfortable 3-0 win over St Pius X HS of Orlim with Declan D’Costa scoring a brace while Arlindo Vales accounted one goal.
Loyola HS thrashed St Joseph Education Institute, Chandor 5-1. Denston Fernandes and Errol Baretto scored a brace each while Rohit Naik was the other scorer for Loyola.
Ivan Fernandes reduced the margin for Chandor School. St Anthony HS, Majorda beat Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim 3-1 via the tie-breaker.
