PANJIM: Tiswadi’s Atharv Nitin Narayan scored 6.5 points out of 8 with 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 lost, in the last round as he defeated Kavish Borkar from Salcete to win the U-11 State championship, organised by Goa Chess Association on Tornelo.com recently.
Salcete’s Ethan Vaz finished in the second position after defeating Atharva Sawal. Edrick Vaz settled for the third spot.
In the girls’ category, Mormugao’s Valanka Fernandes scored 6 points to win the championship.
Salcete’s Saeeja Gunesh Dessai finished in second place while Tiswadi’s Arya Dublay came third.
IA Sanjay Kavlekar was Chief Arbiter of the tournament along with the Arbiters and Volunteers FA Gautam Tari, FA Dattaram Pinge, Coach Wilson Cruz, Amogh Namshikar, Dilip Vernekar, Sharendra Naik, Tanishq Kavlekar and SAG Coach Avinash Malvankar.
The other prize winners are as follows: Boys’ category (fourth to sixth place): Atharva Sawal, Rahul Sahakari and Kavish Borkar. Girls Category: Vaishnavi Parab, Jennica Sequeira and Diya Sawal.
Sixty players below 11 from the State, is considered a very good response in this category.
