PANJIM: The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs organised “Run for Unity, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Union Home Minister of India, Vallabhai Patel.
Following were the winners of the different races. The participants ranged from the age of 4 years to 84 years. The running race for unity was organised in various distance category such as 15, 10, 5, 3, and 2 kms respectively.
In the 2 km race for differently-abled persons, Atharv Narvekar and Santosh HB bagged the top honours.
In the 3 km race for males, Abhay Gaonkar, Pravin Velip and Nitin Gaonkar bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.
In 5 km race for females, Rashi Halarnkar, Ashwini Dhargalkar and Tasmiya were the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
The winners of the 5 km race for male were Hari Velip, Akash Saroj and Vishnu Meena whereas the winners of 5 km race for female were Sunita Kumar, Shefali Naik and Khalifa Khachv.
The winners of 10 km race for male were Uddesh Majik, Franky Gomes and Clavin Carvalho. Mahua, Rasika and Meera emerged victorious in the 10 kms race for female.
The winners of 15 km race for male and female were Mahsin Devappa, Akhilesh Kushwah and Pritesh Adkonkar. Suman Gosavi, Cheril Afonso and Yamini Joshi emerged as winners in the 15 km race.
The honours of being the youngest girl and boy among the participants were taken by Bhumi Pednekar 4 years and Samarth Sarvesh Surlikar.
The oldest man and woman were Subhash Bhagwant Surlakar and Idalena Pereira, 59 years old.
Special prize for most energetic person was bagged by BS Nabar, aged 84 yrs.
Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra Goa Kalidas Ghatwal was the chief guest.
Earlier the running race of 15 kms was flagged off by Secretary of Sports Ajit Roy, 10 kms; 5 kms and 3 kms races were flagged off by Mayor CCP Rohit Monserrate while the 2 km race for differently abled persons was flagged off by Kalidas Ghatwal.
