RAIA: Augustias Sporting Club Pomburpa defeated Guardian Angel Sports Club Curchorem 3 – 1 to move into the semi-finals of 23rd Vagator Soccer at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club ground, Thursday.
Both teams’ defense was rock solid as they canceled out each other’s goal scoring opportunities.
Augustias took the lead in the 24th minute as Anford Fernandes shot was pushed away by Guardian Angel goalkeeper Rasal Fernandes but Raju Padeshi was at the right place to pounce on the rebound.
After the breather, Guardian Angel added a pinch of tenacity to their play as they created a couple of goal scoring opportunities. Peter Carvalho came close to scoring off a header off a cross from Cyril Dias from the right flank, Later, a free-kick from Cyril was tipped over by the goalkeeper.
In the 45th minute Augustias doubled their lead. Anthony Fernandes squared it to Anford Fernandes whose shot was saved by Guradian Angel goalkeeper Rasal Fernandes. Minutes later, he got another opportunity to score and he took his chance.
In the 53rd minute Guardian Angel SC pulled one back as Peter Carvalho scored from a corner.
Velroy Carvalho of Guardian Angel SC was shown the second yellow and was sent off in the 60th minute.
Anthony Fernandes of Agustias Sporting scored in the last minute to seal the victory for his team.
The man-of-the match prize was awarded to Umesh Pujar of Augustias by Uday Lingudkar and his wife.
