MAPUSA: Host Augustias SC had to wait for the penalty shoot-out as they registered a 6-4 win via tie-breaker over Dunes Sports Club of Mandrem at Pomburpa ground, here, on Wednesday
Full time score was 2-2. Dunes took the lead in the sixth minute through Sanmesh Raul who after receiving a deflection from goalkeeper Joystan Lobo, coolly placed the ball into the net.
Rupesh Patil after dribbling host of Dunes defenders passed the ball to Abraham Fernandes who made no mistake in placing the ball into the net. Augustias mounted tremendous pressure which resulted in the second goal from Rupesh Patil. Arun Naik scored second goal for Dunes through a fine header of a free-kick.
In the last few minutes, Dunes exerted tremendous pressure as Raniel D’Mello’s powerful short missed the cross bar. Later Cyprian Rodrigues shot hit the wood work and on rebound Sanmesh Raul missed a glorious chance from close range.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Abraham Fernandes, Akash Parwar, Rupesh Patil and Rohan Naik scored for winners. Jordan Fernandes and Arun Naik found the net for the looser’s while Sandesh Sawant short wide and Leslie Barretto’s short was saved by keeper Rohan Naik.
