PANJIM: Goa’s Anura Prabhu Desai who is the brand ambassador of Geno Pharmaceuticals has won two gold and a silver medals in the 67th All India Railways badminton men and women championship at New Delhi.
Anura is an employee of Northern Railways. Her team Northern Railways emerged winners in the team championship event, defeating Central Railways in the final.
The team consisted of Anura Prabhu Desai, Kanika Kanwal, Chitra Lekha and Anita Ohlan. In individual singles, Anura edged out Vaishnavi Bhale of Central Railway 19-21, 21-19, 21-9 in a lengthy and exciting 1 hour 10 minute battle to win gold. Earlier, she defeated Central Railway’s Saili Rane 21-23,21-18,21-18 in a tense 3 sets match in the semis.
Anura along with her partner Riya Mookerjee of South Central Railway won silver in Women’s individual doubles. Anura will next participate in the Hyderabad Grand Prix International tournament to be held from 6 to 11 August, where she plays Russia’s Natalia Perinova in round one.
