Baale BPS Open: Simran-Nishad advance into next round

MARGAO: Seventeen-year-old Simran Bundela and tennis coach Nishad Shevde teamed up together to defeat Ahana and Anup without losing a set in the mixed doubles event of the ongoing Baale BPS Open 2024 at BPS Sports Club court, Margao, on Thursday. 

Simran, an all-India ranked tennis player and Nishad who runs a coaching centre in South Goa, defeated their opponents, Ahana and Anup. 

In other matches in the mixed doubles event, Hazel/Wilfred and Liza/Akhil L beat Kimberly/Kane and Nethra/Vivaan respectively, 6-2, Tanya/Dunstan beat Poojal/Pankaj 6-3, Liza/Akhil beat Atika/Lyndon 6-4, Sania/Joao beat Smita/Gary 6-4, Pranita/Jasmeet beat Vidhi/Avadhut 6-3, Anna/Prince beat Supriya/Jai 6-3 and Sania/Joao blanked out Lianne/Eugene’s challenge, 6-0. 

In the men’s doubles event, Jai/Chinmay beat Gary/Apoorv 6-1 and Rahul/Ehrlick beat Avadhut/Pankaj 7-6, while in the girls under-18 event, Simran beat Saanj 6-0. The boys U-18 event also witnessed a series of matches in which Shreyas, Noah, Ethan, Shaurya and Punit defeated Isaac, Rajanikant, Vihaan, Aarav and Adianta, respectively, without losing a single game. 

In other matches in the same category, Arhan beat Vidaal 6-3, Alec beat Devaansh 6-2, Darsh beat Noah 6-1, Arhan beat Vivaan 7-5, Gaurang N beat Alec 7-6 , Aarav J beat Sairaj 6-3, Adianta beat Arion 7-5 and Vedant beat Gauraang P 6-4. 

In the ladies singles event, Vidhi and Poojal had easy outings against Nethra and Aastha, with both players winning 6-0, while Tanya defeated Avni 6-1. In other matches, Liza defeated Smita 6-2 and Anna beat Pranita 7 -5.
