PEDDA-BENAULIM: Bab Bakery Juniors, Raia emerged champions of the New Era Club Inter-Village Football tournament Under-14 trophy, organised by New Era Club, Benaulim and played at Xemu Moll ground, Benaulim.
The defeated Union of Villagers Chinchinim 6-5 via the tie-breaker in the final.
Both the teams started the game on attacking note however Chinchinim Union took the limelight away when Nigel Viegas gave his team the lead in the 10th minute. First half ended 1-0.
After the lemon break Raia Boys accelerated the pace and troubled the rival defence with Brennan and Kifern combining well. Raia finally scored their equaliser through Yellory in the 35th minute. Final match ended 1-1 at regulation time and in resultant tie breaker Raia Boys proved to be better shooters.
Father Anthony Rodrigues was the chief guest and gave the prizes in the presence of others dignitaries. Father Milagres Dias was also felicitated by New Era Club for his contribution in supporting community and sports activities in Benaulim.
The winners were richer by Rs,18,000 plus trophy and the runners-up had to settle for Rs 14,000 plus trophy.
