VERNA: Baba Boys Verna defeated Active Boys Sonarvaddo 2-0 to clinch the Late Benjamin Barretto trophy in the All Nagoa-Verna late Benjamin Barretto football tournament, at Village Panchayat sports complex Verna, on Sunday.
Both the teams played attacking football and tried to score goals to get an advantage in the final. Baba Boys however had the first chance of the match through, Nicholas Colaco in the fourth minute but the striker squandered the opportunity after he shot wide.
Within two minutes, Robert Noronha of Active Boys took control of the ball and slammed a powerful left footer from the top of the rival box but the defender blocked the goal bound shot.
In the seventh minute Joaquim Abranches fired the first salvo with his power packed shot to open the account for Baba Boys in the 8th minute while Nicholas Colaco doubled the lead for Baba Boys in the 53rd minute.
Fr Livio D’Mello was the chief guest and gave the prizes to the winners and runners up in the presence of Fr Benjamin Vicroria, Joaquim Abranches, Joy Ferrao, Nicholas and Elvina Barretto.
