PANJIM: The 42nd edition of Bandodkar memorial intervillage football tournament organized by Baina Sports Club will kick-off on May 16, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco.
The 15-day long tournament will witness 16 teams participating, with seven from North, one from Ilhas, seven from South and one from Mormugao.
Mormugao United SC, Vasco and Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club, Verna will clash in the inaugural match at 4.30 p.m.
The winners will take home Rs 50,000 and the trophy while the runnersup Rs 40,000. Semifinal losers will get Rs 10,000 each.
Individual cash prizes of Rs 5,000 will be awarded for better performance – Upcoming player of the tournament, highest scoring team, highest scorer, best goalkeeper, best disciplined team. Besides, man-of-the-match award for each match, kit bag consisting of pair of boots, pair of socks, pair of shin guard and jersey/short.
The tournament is being held since 1973 in honour of late chief minister D B Bandodkar, who was a great sports lover.
