PANJIM: M Barath and Riddhi Zantye both of Sharda Mandir HS, Mira Mar won the under-11 State chess championship organized by Bardez Taluka Chess Association under the aegis of Goa Chess Association and SAG in the open and girls category respectively.
M Barath won all the seven rounds and remained undefeated whereas Riddhi Zantye drew her last round to take her tally to 6.5 points from seven rounds. Anirudh Parsekar and Swera Braganca won the second place in the open and girls category respectively. The four players will now represent Goa in the National under-11 chess championship in New Delhi from September 1 to 10.
Final standings – (Open 1 to 6): M Barath, Anirudh Parsekar, Om Barde, Sahil Shetty, Sarvam Naik, Sanjay Thorat.
Girls (1 to 6): Riddhi Zantye, Swera Braganca, Krystal Fernandes, Siddhi Naik, Gunjal Chopdekar, Alaina Pereira. Gautam Tari was the chief arbiter of the tournament.
MP Sripad Naik was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners. Ulhas Asnodkar and Kishor Bandekar, joint-secretary of All India Chess Federation were the guests of honour.
Earlier, Vishwas Pilankar, president of Bardez Taluka Chess Association welcomed. Suhas Asnodkar, secretary compered. Later, he proposed the vote of thanks.
In all, 80 players participated.
