Beevan brace helps Dempo SC down Panjim

MAPUSA: Two quick goals by Beevan D`Mello in the second session enabled Dempo Sports Club to stage a remarkable comeback to register a 3-1 win over Panjim Footballers in the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium here on Thursday.

In a must win situation to improve their league position, Dempo found themselves trailing by a goal at half time with Lloyd Cardozo finding the net for Panjim. However, it was a complete turnaround in the second session with Beevan scoring two quick goals and Pedro Gonsalves also getting his name on the scoresheet.

Panjim Footballers who were on the backfoot for most part of the first half got the opening goal in the 45th minute when Lokeshkumar Talwar clever pass found Vallmiky Miranda on the right flank who in turn crossed the ball into the danger box where Lloyd Cardozo took a touch to get past his marker and drilled the ball past the advancing keeper into the net, 1-0.

Dempo finally tasted success with two quick goals in the 56th and 58th minute through their skipper Beevan. He first scored with a simple tap in from a cut back pass from Pruthvesh Pednekar and then headed the ball into the far corner of net after keeper Preston Rego had blocked Pedro Gonsalves shot, 2-1.

Just when Panjim Footballers looked threatening, Dempo sealed the full three points with the third goal in the 73rd minute when Pedro Gonsalves free-kick from the left flank crept into the goal at the first post.
