MARGAO: Cana Benaulim Sporting Association got the better of Sporting Club of Davorlim 2-1 to cruise into the quarter-finals of All-Goa 33rd Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, Friday. Cana Benaulim Sporting Association led 1-0 at the breather.
Cana Benaulim Sporting Association the held upper hand in both the sessions with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence into disarray. Persistent forays paid off the dividends when Wellington Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish in the 10th minute.
Sporting Club of Davorlim looked disjointed as they failed to function as a cohesive unit.
Post resumption, Cana Benaulim Sporting Association continued to enjoy better share of exchanges. Jiason Pereira doubled the lead in the 45th minute when he unleashed a stiff grounder that crashed into the net.
Down by two goals, Sporting Club of Davorlim went all out in search of reducer and their efforts bore the fruit in the 50th minute when Malcolm Colaco shot was handled by rival defender Laxmikant Kaurade inside the penalty box and Malcolm Colaco himself took the resultant spot-kick to send the rival goalkeeper in wrong way.
