MARGAO: United Club of Benaulim rode on 5th minute goal by striker Mackwin Gracias to pip Ambelim Sports Club 1-0 and advance to the semi-final of All-Goa Our lady of Assumpta inter-village football tournament organized by Sarzora Sports Club at SAG Ground, Sarzora on Monday.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. The all important goal came in the 5th minute when striker Mackwin Gracias bulge the net off well through pass from Sabino Rodrigues.
But full credit goes to Benaulim goalkeeper Jaison Pereira who thwarted two fine chances to keep the hopes of the Benaulim alive.
Stung by the early setback, Ambelim went all out but United goalkeeper Jaison Pereira was rock solid as he denied Jade Colaco sure goals.
After the break, Ambelim played with true promise but rival goalkeeper Jaison Pereira showed fine reflexes and anticipation to keep his citadel intact.
Jade Colaco of Ambelim was adjudged man-of-the-match.
