Benaulim Veterans in final

BENAULIM: Benaulim Veterans registered a solitary goal win over United Club Fatorda Veterans to enter the final of 16th VM Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer, at St John the Baptist ground, Danddo-Benaulim, on Saturday.

After a barren first session, striker Mohamed Bepari struck the winner in the second session to take his team into the finals.
Fatorda with a galaxy of stars from yesteryears with the likes of Johnny D’Cruz, Remy Barreto and Agnelo Gomes –dominated the play but their poor finishing let them down.
For Benaulim, Camilo Baptista, Sandeep Shanke and Bobby Crasto worked hard but their forwards Mohamed Bepari and Cajie Santiago were also wasteful.
After resumption, Benaulim scored very early when Bobby Crasto picked out substitute striker Pele Fernandes, who shot a fierce drive which slipped out of the hands of Fatorda keeper Soccoro Azavedo and before the rival defender could clear the loose ball, Benaulim striker Mohamed Bepari reacted first to slam the ball into the nylon.
Thereafter it was one-way traffic with Fatorda raiding the rival half in search of the equaliser but Benaulim keeper Costao Silva made three crucial saves to deny Vicente Barbosa, Robin Pinheiro and Remy Barreto.
