VASCO: The General Secretary of Benfica Youth Club Bernandinho Velho condoled the demise of ‘Tragedy King’ Mario Menezes.
The renowned football referee with a penchant for grooming budding footballers recalled Mario as a very agile and fearless goalkeeper who donned the colours of Benfica Youth Club way back in the late 80s.
“The residents of Desterro area in Vasco da Gama, where Mario spent the better part of his youth days were left shocked to the news of his demise. His passion for dramas or rather tiatrs as also his job commitments weaned him away from what looked like a promising career in football,” he said.
“On behalf of Benfica Youth Club and the football and tiatr loving residents of Desterro, I would like to convey my deepest sympathies and prayers for solace to the family of Mario,” Velho expressed.
