MAPUSA: Benny XI, Mapusa defeated AA De Moira 1-0 in the final to emerge victorious in the GFA 3rd Division Football League Bardez Zone Play-Offs played at Duler Stadium, here, on Saturday.
Having reached the final, both the teams stand qualified for the 2nd Division Bardez Zone League for 2016-17.
The evenly contested encounter saw the teams play their hearts out to gain the prestigious title. The over enthusiastic crowd also helped lift the spirits of both the outfits every time they came close to scoring.
Despite several moves by either end, the only goal of the match happened in the 24th minute through Chandan Gawas, who leapt high to nod home Jesroy Fernandes’ pinpoint cross.
Benny keeper Denis D’Souza with his brilliant performance under the horizontal bar frustrated the attempts of AA De Moira strikers.
