MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club prevailed over Varca Sports Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of 24th All-Goa Super Soccer tournament organized by United Boys Dando-Colva at St John Baptist ground, Benaulim, Wednesday. The score was 1-1 at full time.
Varca surged ahead in the ninth minute when striker Falsinger Fernandes beat his markers and slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stunned by the setback, Betalbatim Sporting Club regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and their efforts materialized in the 25th minute when playmaker Desmond Fernandes’ rasping shot deflected off rival defender Quelon Alemao’s legs and eluded the Varca goalkeeper.
Post resumption, both the teams kept the crowds on their toes. Both had equal number of scoring opportunities but the defenders stood tall in protecting the citadel.
In the tie-breaker Desmond Fernandes, Klinsman Pereira and Steve Gomes were on target for Betalbatim while Elvis Fernandes and Falsinger Fernandes converted for Varca.
