CAVELOSSIM: Betalbatim defeated Arlem Youth Association 7-5 via the tie-breaker in the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
The match rose to great heights with attack and counter attack in which Sheehan Fernandes of Arlem was a constant threat to the Betalbatim goal. On one occasion, he controlled a cross pass from Joston Barbosa, but his shot was wide off the mark.
Velito’s power-packed shot was intercepted by Betalbatim keeper Milton D’Sousa.
In a counter attack, a clever move on the right flank by Niason D’ Cunha and Oliver D’ Souza ended, when the ball travelled to Ronaldo Coelho whose shot gave Betalbatim the lead.
Crossing over, Betalbatim kept the pressure on Arlem and succeeded in increasing the lead through their key defender Alarico D’Cunha who had moved forward, collected the ball from Zebon Dias whose shot gave no chance to young Arlem keeper Ransley Oliveira to make the score 2-0. However, Arlem fought back with goals from Velito D’ Cruz and Joy Quadros to restore the parity with the score 2-2. Despite efforts by both teams to take the lead the match ended without any addition to the score during regulation time.
In the tie-breaker Ashely Fernandes, Alarico D’Cunha, Ronaldo Coelho, Oliver D’Souza and Joelon Fernandes scored for Betalbatim while Danny Fernandes, Joston Barbosa, Movin Gauncar converted for Arlem.
