UTORDA: Cutorim Gymkhana beat Betalbatim Sports Club 8-7 via the tie-breaker to win the Lourdes Festival soccer in memory of Bernard Custodian D’Souza organised by United Club of Utorda in association with Sports Authority of Goa, at SAG ground, Utorda, on Sunday.
Betalbatim SC struck the first goal in the 58th minute through the boots of Klusnar Pereira off a beautiful cross.
Cutorim Gymkhana missed a golden opportunity in the 62nd minute to equalise as Milagres Fernandes fumbled with the ball which was assisted by Josley Gomes.
Betalbatim would have doubled the tally in the 68th as a free-kick taken by Klusnar Pereira hit the crossbar.
Josley Gomes equalised for Cutorim Gymkhana in the 78th minute through a deft placement.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Curtorim Gymkhana proved to be the better shooters.
Churchill Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of local MLA Wilfred D Sa(Babashan), Fr Santo Antonio Pereira ,ZP member Nelly Rodrigues, Joao Camilo D’Sousa , Remedios Monterio. Jhonny Gomes, Sarpanch Agnelo Pereira, Remy Pereira and other dignitaries.
