RAIA: Betalbatim Sporting Club scored a 6-4 win over United Club of Verna via tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of 16th London Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament 2024 organised by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Thursday.
In a hard-fought encounter, United Club of Verna surged ahead in the 14th minute of play through Nevil Menezes whose attempt beat the Betalbatim Sporting Club keeper Joyrin Braganza. Betalbatim Sporting Club retaliated and equalised immediately through Dickson Rogtao in the 18th minute of play.
The match ended with 1-1 scoreline. In the resultant tie-breaker, Betalbatim Sporting Club scored through Ashley Fernandes, Gladson Braganza, Dickson Rogtao, Keith Rodrigues and Selroy Fernandes. United Club of Verna scored through Andrus John, Joasle Fernandes and Keith Menezes.
Dickson Rogtao of Betalbatim Sporting Club and Hilton Fernandes of United Club of Verna were cautioned by the Match Referee Milagres Fernandes.
Mackinley Cunha of Betalbatim Sporting Club was awarded the man-of-the-match by Iyno John De Souza, former secretary of Goa Velha Sports Club and Sarpanch of St Andre Village Panchayat.
Betalbatim SC will meet Chandor Club in the second semi-final on March 17.
