RAIA: Betalbatim Sporting Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Goa Velha Sports Club to book their place in the quarter-finals of the 27th Holy Cross inter-village football tournament played at Vhodlem Moll ground, Kakoda, on Wednesday.
The first half saw Betalbatim SC squandering a couple of golden one-on-one opportunities, with one placement shot rattling the crossbar. Goa VelhaSC too had their share of chances but failed to find the back of the net.
In the second half, Betalbatim SC continued to press forward, but the Goa Velha SC goalkeeper stood tall, pulling off a series of brilliant saves. However, his resistance was finally broken in the 57th minute when Gladson of Betalbatim SC scored from a corner. With a clever trick, he outwitted the keeper and slotted the ball in, giving him no chance to react.
Despite late efforts from Goa Velha SC, Betalbatim SC held on to their narrow lead.
