MAJORDA: Betalbatim SC defeated Maina SC 6-4 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the 20th Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial football tournament, at Musson ground, Majorda, on Saturday.
Betalbatim showed urgency and took the lead in the 15th minute through Clifford Miranda who took advantage after seeing the on rushing goalkeeper by chipping the ball over him towards the right corner to give the lead.
Stunned by an early goal, Maina retaliated with a good move by Milagres Fernandes who combined well from the cross in the 18th minute to find Vicky Cardoso to head the ball to bring the equaliser.
After that most of the play was restricted to the midfield but Betalbatim suffered a set-back as the veteran striker Clifford was injured and had to be taken off on the stretcher.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Betalbatim proved to be the better shooters as they scored through Manushan, Klunser, Sawan, Alaric and Travis Baretto while Maina SC found the mark through Edwin, Aliston and Vicky.
Betalbatim SC will now meet the winners of Rossman Cruz, Nagoa-Verna and Parish Youth Nuvem in the semi-finals.
