MAPUSA: Betalbatim Sporting Club emerged State champions of the Goa Football Association U-16 Second Division League following their 8-2 win over Silver Sands Sports Club at Artificial Turf ground, Fatorda, on Sunday.
Selwyn Soares, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, was the star for Betalbatim SC as he scored quadruple. Kevin Carvalho bagged a brace while Reagen Soares and Kluivet Pereira scored a goal each for the winning side.
Silver Sands managed to score through Desmond Miranda double.
Meanwhile, Salcete Football Club edged past Dunes Sports Club 2-1 at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.
Salcete FC forged ahead in the 4th minute when a brilliant volley by Velito was blocked by Dunes keeper Jordon Fernandes and the ball rolled to Shabhaz who scored, 1-0.
Salcete almost netted their second goal in the 16th minute when a corner by Mistle saw Shabaz header hit the Dunes upright.
Dunes had a chance to level terms in the 29th minute where a 40-yard strike by Chandrakant was acrobatically saved by Salcete keeper Alroy Vales.
On crossing over another chance went in vain for Dunes in the 50th minute as a strike by Joshua was tipped over the crossbar by keeper Alroy.
While Dunes failed to score, Salcete doubled their lead in the through a superb individual brilliancy from Omkar from his own half, 2-0.
Dunes did try to get back into the match by scoring in the 55th minute. A shot by Chandrakant from the edge of the box hit the defender and the ball rolled to Joshua who guided the ball into the goal, 1-2.
