MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club beat CRC Chinchinim 7-6 via the tie-breaker to march into the quarter-finals of South Goa Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union at Government Village ground, Cuncolim on Tuesday.
CRC Chinchinim took the lead in the 20th minute when striker Ashlon Olveira slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off an assist from Miloo Fernandes.
Spurred by the lead, CRC intensified their attacks and doubled the lead in the 32nd minute when Roger Pereira ran down the right flanks and sent a low cross inside the box and Franky Oilveira pushed the ball into the net.
At the other hand, a lot was expected from Betalbatim Sporting Club who looked jaded and their forwards were erratic after entering the rival danger zone.
CRC Chinchinim tried to put together a few attacks but Betalbatim Sporting Club managed to hold on.
The score-line read 2-0 at the end of the first half.
Post resumption, Betalbatim Sporting Club were a transformed side and their forwards fired couple of attempts and looked good with possession as Betalbatim carried a few attacks after resumption but CRC managed to hold rivals at bay.
In the 62nd minute, Betalbatim Sporting Club reduced the margin when Olvier D’Souza punted the ball to the far corner of the net. Five minutes later, Betalbatim Sporting Club continued to hold sway and cancelled the lead when Joaquim D’Costa beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish.
In the penalty shoot-out, Olvier D’Souza, Dylan Rodrigues, Travis Baretto, Serino Costa and Maclas Afonso were on target for Betalbatim Sporting Club while Steven Fernandes, Aroon Rodrigues, Ashlon Olveira and Alliston Rebello converted for CRC Chinchinim.
